FRANK
When I see her, I forget to breathe. I have to put on a brave face. I force myself to look into her eyes, JUST her eyes, ALWAYS in her eyes, nowhere else.
It’s not her breasts or her figure, that catch my eye. It’s what she is wearing. She is brave to show up for a job interview like that. Brave but hopelessly lost. I could never hire her. I wouldn’t be allowed to. Because I know exactly what the consequence would be: trouble.

“Please”, I’m saying, pointing at the sofa. I could slap myself. While I ask all the other applicants to my desk, I ask her, of all people, to the sofa.
She nods, walks in front of me, sits down and crosses her legs.
I notice how I begin to sweat. I don’t know how to start the conversation. I don’t want to be rude and send her home right away. Even though her chances for a job here are below zero, I have to pretend at least, that she has a chance to become my new assistant. Therefore, I’m picking up her application and start flipping through it. I can only pretend to read in it because I’m way more interested in what I’m seeing in the corner of my eye. “Miss Just”, I’m saying finally and clear my throat, “I’m reading here that you finished your studies with honors. That’s nice!” What an embarrassing nonsense. I sound like an amateur who is doing his first job interview right now. But I feel like I am hopelessly at her mercy.
“Thank you”, she just says.

I am a boxer hanging in the ropes. I wait for the hard punch which doesn’t happen though. She is just sitting there, showing me what she has. How can she afford that? Does she have a rich partner? Or rich parents? But what would they think of their daughter going to a job interview dressed like this?
Pull yourself together, Frank!

“Okay”, I’m saying, already fearing that she would misunderstand that as a hiring assurance, why I continue immediately. “Tell me, Miss Just,… what three reasons qualify you for this job as a manager assistant with this medium-sized German bank?”
She answers without the slightest hesitation: “I speak five languages, three of them fluently. Since childhood, I’m fascinated by money. Furthermore, I will work harder than all your pervious assistants combined.”

Her self-confidence matches her appearance. Being self-confident is an important prerequisite in the banking sector, where people only differ from their competitors because of their personality.
We continue to talk. Slowly, my tension eases. It helps me to know that I could never hire her. Even though she would be competent and refreshingly ambitious and, under other circumstances, I would definitely consider her for the position. What a pity.
At the end of our conversation, I ask her the one question I got into the habit of asking because it often leads to surprising results: “Is there anything else I should know about you?”
She looks at me, hesitates, crosses her legs from one side to the other. I notice how I tense up again. How the heat rushes in my head. How I’m aroused by what I’m seeing.
“Yes,” she answers finally, “I am happily married to a woman. Don’t have any false hopes.”……….
